My name is Sarah Higginbotham. I am a Life Member of Olney Memorial Post 4226 in Olney, Illinois. I joined under the eligibility of my husband, Ryan Higginbotham, an 82nd Airborne paratrooper. Ryan is an Afghanistan and Iraq Veteran, who served in the U.S. Army. I’ve been a member of the VFW Auxiliary for five years. I jumped right in when I joined and have served in many offices and chairmanships at the local and district levels. I’m very excited to be the Department “Buddy” Poppy and VFW National Home for Children Chairman this year. The “Buddy” Poppy is one of the symbols you think of when you think of the VFW. Poppy Drives are exactly how we follow this year’s theme of “Boots on the Ground for Our Veterans” by raising funds for our Veterans and their families while walking the streets or standing outside stores. We also have our “Boots on the Ground for Our Veterans” at the VFW National Home for Children by providing a safe environment for military families that are facing challenges as a result of a parent serving our country. Both of these programs are near to my heart and crucial in making life better for our Veterans and their families.
